Day 01: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
The 2 hours drive from Arusha to the Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate is a scenic journey that passes through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain.
You will be accompanied by a guide, cook and porter for each for a walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. Subject to weather conditions, the trail can be muddy and slippery. You will arrive for dinner and overnight at Machame Camp.
Day 02: Machame Camp - Shira Camp
After breakfast, we leave the rain forest and ascend a path crossing the valley trekking along a steep rocky ridge, covered with heather to the end of the ridge. Enjoy great views of a river gorge before arriving at Shira Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 03: Shira Camp - Barranco Camp
After breakfast, leave from the Shira Plateau, to take the junction towards the peak of Kibo. This day is very significant for acclimatization in preparation for summit day. Direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the "Shark's Tooth." Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 4,876 meters. We now continue down to the Barranco Hut at an altitude of 3,860 meters for leisure, dinner, and overnight.
Day 04: Barranco Camp - Barafu Camp
After breakfast, we continue on a steep ridge up the Barranco Wall, through the Karanga Valley to connect with the Mweka Trail onto Barafu Hut. Rejoice in accomplishment of the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. It is here that you will prepare for the summit day and view the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. All meals and overnight at camp.
Day 05: Barafu Camp – Summit - Mweka Hut
Mid-night call for an ascent to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Proceed and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. Relax for a while at Stella Point (5685m), andenjoy the most splendidAfrica sunrise ever. (Weather permitting).At Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Descend down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. Descend further to Mweka Camp, situated in the upper forest. Mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon. It is here that we enjoy a farewell thee dinner and sound sleep
Day 06: Mweka Camp - Arusha
Descend further after a sumptuous good breakfast to the Park Gate. Here you will be awarded your well-earned summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. It is another trek under an hour to Mweka village where you are met and transferred by our driver to Arusha Hotel. You are booked on bed and breakfast
PS: It can be very cold at night at most elevations, but gets warmer by the end of the hiking day. Trekkers are advised to bring clothes for both extremes in terms of weather.
